Dutch Lake PotteryDutch Lake Pottery

Jeff Rottman has been a studio potter in Grand Rapids, Mich., since 2002. All of Dutch Lake’s pottery is made exclusively by Jeff, and he gives each piece special attention. Jeff’s unique leaf collection includes a variety of leaf patterns, chosen based on the availability of natural materials in Jeff’s own neighborhood. All of Jeff’s pieces are made from
vitrified stoneware, a clay that is fired to 2200 degrees. The rich golden glaze is lead free, food safe, microwave safe and oven safe.

Jon Whitney Pottery

Jon Whitney Pottery developed through Jon's experience of growing up in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. "My work is an expression of my love of life. Natural shapes influence the way I look at form and reveal themselves in my work," he says. Jon's work lends itself to the arts and crafts movement by focusing on beautiful handmade objects for everyday use. His color palette also reflects the earthy tones found in the era. Jon Whitney Pottery is located in the country setting of Mason, Mich. Jon works with high-fire stoneware to create his pieces. All of Jon's work is food safe and can be used in the dishwasher or microwave.

Creative Works PotteryCreative Works Pottery and Tile

Clay artists Casey McConnell and Shandi Berls live in Wilmington, N.C., and their work is made in the clay studio and woodshop in their own backyard. Casey and Shandi met at 16 years ago at the University of Nebraska. They moved to North Carolina in 1999 and started Creative Works in 2000. The pair collaborate on most of their work but definitely have separate “jobs” in the studio. Shandi designs, throws and glazes larger pieces, while Casey extrudes, slab builds and glazes smaller pieces. Inspiration isn’t hard to find when you’re surrounded by things you love, and they’ve filled their home and yard with art, pots, colors, fabrics, plants, flowers, weeds, photos and textures to keep them creative for years.
